Source: Boehiem Has No Intention Of Stepping Down

Nov 28, 2011 11:06 PM

Jim Boeheim has no intention of resigning from his position as Syracuse head coach in the wake of an investigation into child molestation charges against assistant coach Bernie Fine, according to a source.

"He's not going to resign," said the source. "He's like (UConn's Jim) Calhoun -- old warriors. He'll get through this."

Three men have accused Fine, a longtime assistant to Boehiem, of sexual molestation.

A source familiar with the situation said Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins plans on succeeding Boeheim as head coach whenever Boeheim steps aside.

Syracuse's Depth Could Avoid Repeating Late Season Struggles

Nov 25, 2011 7:42 PM

Through five games, Jim Boeheim has 10 players who are averaging at least 12.8 minutes per game, and no one on Syracuse is averaging more than 25.4 minutes per game.

Last season, only eight players averaged more than ten minutes per game for the Orange.

While Boehiem will certainly use a tighter rotation as the season progresses, but his depth will help avoid a repeat of last season when they started the season 18-0 before going 9-8 during the remainder of the season.

The Orange don’t play at a particularly quick pace, but their staple 2-3 zone defense involves a lot of movement and running around.

Noah Vonleh Impressive In National Prep Showcase

Nov 21, 2011 12:33 PM

Noah Vonleh is challenging Andrew Wiggins for the top slot in the class of 2014.

Vonleh, who plays for New Hampton, was at the National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Connecticut this weekend.

Vonleh, a 6-foot-7 combo forward, had 19 rebounds on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. He also went 4-for-5 from three on Sunday to go with several buckets attacking the rim off the dribble to finish with 19 points.

"I thought I played pretty good and I shot the ball well," said Vonleh. "I've been working on my shooting and getting my handle better."

Vonleh is receiving interest from Connecticut, Boston College, Syracuse, Kansas, Auburn, Georgia Tech and UCLA.

"I don't let it get to my head," Vonleh said of the attention. "I just play hard and try to get better."

Syracuse's Improved Depth Balances Scoring Attack

Nov 15, 2011 1:50 AM

Syracuse's bench nearly outscored Manhattan in Monday's win, scoring 50 of the team's 92 points.

"That's the thing. We're really dangerous. I didn't score and we still won by 36 points," said Scoop Jardine. "I'm happy to be a part of something like this where it's not really all on my shoulders. When I contribute, it's going to be big and it's going to make us even more dangerous."

Dion Waiters had 17 points, while Kris Joseph and James Southerland each had 15.

"I don't know Coach Boeheim's team as well as he does," Albany coach Will Brown said. "I would venture to say this might be the most talented team they've had in years. They're so deep. We're going to go out and play our butts off. We need to be aggressive and attack."

"They've normally been a seven-, eight-man rotation. Now, they can play 10 or 11 and you can't wear them down," first-year Manhattan coach Steve Masiello said. "If you get someone in foul trouble, you're coming off the bench with James Southerland. They can hurt you in a lot of ways."
